Handpainted Shrimp Sign
So After reading one of my Favorite Blogs- Funky Junk Interiors,
I found her wonderful post on how she paints Old Signs.
She was so inspiring I had to run outside and see what wood I could find to paint one for the Kitchen!
The only piece that I could find was a 1×4, a little smaller than I wanted, but fun to practice on!
I picked my 2 colors, I love these small samples from Home Depot for around a dollar each! I brushed each on being very sloppy and not covering the whole surface.
I printed out my letters in the size that i needed….
and I colored on the back with a pencil then flipped over and traced the letters. Then Painted in with Blue paint and sanded heavily to get the old look!
I hung it over the sink in the kitchen….
I love it so much!
We have an old Shrimper that sets up his roadside/bayside shrimp stand near our house and I have always loved his painted signs…

I love your sign and the way you explained how to trace the letters. I used to live on the coast of South Carolina, and the thing I miss most (living inland) is fresh shrimp!
That is such a cute sign. Thanks for sharing at Beach Cottage Good Life Wednesdays.
Cute, cute, cute. You did an awesome job on that. Really looks old. Thanks for joining the party.
LOVE IT!!! You always do the most fantastic things and it looks like something you would find in an antique shop. We are so thrilled that you share your creativity with us each week at Inspiration Friday!

Your sign is really charming! I love signs and keep thinking that I should try making some – thanks for the great tutorial!!
Too cute! Since I am a retired educator I’ve used the pencil trick for many years!!LOL Love where you hung the sign too! Visiting from Savvy Southern Style!!
So the pencil on the back is what shows up when you traced on the wood, right? Very cute!! We live in Cajun country so we eat shrimp often!! (Visiting from UTTAD)
Nice job on the shrimp sign! It looks really good above your windows.
Great idea. I really love the finished look – I’d love to make some for my kitchen, but I can never think of what to put on them.
